Peregrine $50 million investment into new head office

Peregrine $50 million investment into new head office

26 November, Peregrine Corporation, owner of On the Run convenience stores, Peregrine Property and the business behind SA Motorsport Park, has announced plans for a new $50 million investment in its Adelaide head office and centre of innovation.

The South Australian family company is proposing to construct a state-of-the-art mixed use multi-level building at Kensington Park to cater for its growing local workforce.

The proposed building on 270 The Parade will replace its existing head office site and include extensive training areas, Adelaide’s most inspiring office space, car parking as well as ground level retailing and a restaurant with decking area located on the top floor.

The development has received Major Project status from the South Australian Government and plans will now be lodged with the Development Assessment Commission.  Peregrine welcomes the major project status and looks forward to a full assessment of the proposal and to consultation with the local community.

Peregrine Executive Director Yasser Shahin said the company was looking to solidify the business’s long term future in South Australia and had outgrown its current headquarters.

“The existing building on site has been our company base for the past 12 years,” Mr Shahin said.

“Peregrine has grown significantly, creating thousands of local jobs along the way. Many of our head office team have contributed from the beginning, including our first employee, who is still with us. The Directors and I are incredibly proud of the meritocracy we have created and the genuine care of all of our employees about the business and its customers.  As a result we are creating what will be Adelaide’s most innovative and creative learning and planning space to recognise the team, to attract and retain talent and to show our confidence in the future of the State.”

The new headquarters allows for the number of staff on site to rise from 249 currently to over 400 over the next 10 years. There is also potential for an additional 110 jobs to be created through the retail and restaurant facilities within the development.

The building also provides space for a small number of additional tenants to join us as office tenants.

Approximately 600 jobs are also expected to be supported during the construction process with Peregrine planning to work with local builders and subcontractors wherever possible.

Encompassing a total of almost 30,000 square metres, the building has been designed to be as environmentally sustainable as possible to reduce emissions and promote greater energy efficiency as well as limiting the impact on local traffic flow.

Mr Shahin said the development was testament to Peregrine’s long-term presence in South Australia and was consistent with the key directions outlined in the 30-year Plan for Greater Adelaide including job creation.

“Our team is proud of our state heritage and we maintain a very positive outlook for South Australia,” Mr Shahin said.

“This investment in a new head office is our vote of confidence in the future of this State, the great people employed across our group and our customers.”

“Not only will the new head office provide a state-of-the-art working environment for our current and future staff, but the community will also have access to the restaurant and retail facilities.”

Formed in 1984 by Fred Shahin, Peregrine Corporation is South Australia’s largest private company and one of the biggest investors in the local economy, employing approximately 2750 staff.
