OTR Mildura Brings Guzman y Gomez to Sunraysia Region

OTR is excited to announce the opening of its flagship Mildura store on Thursday 14 January 2021, bringing the first Guzman y Gomez to the Sunraysia Region, so all residents can enjoy the freshest Mexican food. To celebrate their opening, the new GYG Mildura restaurant will offer Burritos and Bowls for just $5 each, from 11am to 9pm on Thursday 14 January.

Guzman y Gomez is Australia’s most authentic Mexican Kitchen with a cult following around the country, specialising in Mexican dishes such as tacos, nachos and burritos prepared fresh on site using the most authentic and ethically-sourced ingredients. Guzman Y Gomez Mildura is open from 8am – 11pm daily for dine-in, delivery and takeaway.

General Manager Food OTR, Hayley Brown said, “We are proud to open our first GYG outside of SA here in Mildura, VIC; this is also our 6th GYG restaurant as a franchise. The OTR Mildura store offers the ultimate in convenience retailing and is open 24/7 to make life easier for the community. The new OTR store offers barista-made C Coffee, Moe’s New York-style hot dogs & shakes and OTR food brand, EAT, offering a selection of freshly made food on the go sandwiches, salads and hot pastries. No matter the occasion, a specially curated range of supermarket essentials will ensure you can pick up what you need from last minute gifts, to entertaining at home. A premium range of BP fuel will ensure you can fill up and go at any time of day or night.

At an investment of $5 Million, OTR Mildura has taken just 10 months to build, however due to COVID restrictions and border closures there have been unavoidable delays. OTR General Manager, Darryl Cotter said, “We would like to thank the local trades for their persistent work throughout a challenging time. The project employed mainly locals throughout construction boosting local employment with over 50 jobs. We think the final result looks absolutely amazing, with the building acting as an iconic gateway into Mildura.”

The team is trained to offer safe options to ensure the wellbeing of their staff and customers, such as re-fueling and paying at the pump through the OTR App, pre-ordering of C Coffee, quick food for now options, as well as shop items ready for collection.

OTR Mildura will have easily accessible hand sanitiser and hand wash facilities to ensure safety when visiting, as well an increased schedule of cleansing communal use equipment. OTR team members receive extensive training on food safety, money handling and additional ways to safely provide a high level of customer service, whilst also maintaining VIC Health’s recommended physical distancing.

OTR General Manager, Darryl Cotter said, “We aim to give customers the very best in convenience retailing with our award-winning fuel and food offers. If you need flowers for a loved one, a coffee in the morning, a quick snack after work, or some supermarket necessities any time of the day or night; OTR has you covered.

“As with all our OTR stores, we aim to become an integral part of the local community and region, by supporting community groups, events and sporting clubs,” continued Mr Cotter.

“The GYG and OTR Mildura store has created employment for 37 local team members including Shane Linahan as Store Manager, who has managed OTR Irymple for the last six months. Shane has over 20 years’ experience in Supermarkets and Convenience Stores and will be joined by Tegan Hazer as Assistant Store Manager. Tegan has more than three years’ experience with OTR, including almost 18 months at Irymple,” said Mr Cotter.

“This affirms our commitment to investing in regional towns and champion job growth across Australia, with 400 positions created last year alone. Announcements regarding the next OTR stores that are scheduled to open 2021 across metropolitan and regional Victoria, creating further jobs, will be shared in the coming months,” continued Mr Cotter.

As an Australian family business operating for over 35 years, OTR has 160 stores and employs over 3,300 people across Australia. The OTR Mildura store will be Victoria’s sixth, after Irymple (which opened in 2015), Portland (June 2019), 2 stores in Horsham (March 2020) and Stawell (April 2020).

OTR is also a retail leader in community engagement and corporate social responsibility, including food rescue through Foodbank, which has created over 220,000 meals in the last 12 months for families in need. OTR Mildura will also support local agency Mallee District Aboriginal Service for its food rescue across Sunraysia and provide life-saving access to a public defibrillator from St John Ambulance, supporting all members of the community.

Customers are also encouraged to help OTR give back to community groups through the innovative OTRGive program, which works through the OTR App – at no cost to the customer! Every time a customer shops or refuels at OTR with the OTR App, OTR donates on the customer’s behalf to their selected community group. Donations to the community through OTRGive are nearing $345,000, and customers can download the OTR App to receive their first regular C Coffee for free with ongoing access to OTR’s ‘Buy 4 Get 1 Free’ Rewards.
