Where is Ruwenzori?
Ruwenzori is 32 km (20 minutes) north of Mudgee, NSW, just off the Cassillis Road and 22 km from the fascinating historic goldrush town of Gulgong (all sealed roads). The retreat is approximately 300km from Sydney via the Blue Mountains, and the same from Newcastle via the Hunter Valley.
Weather
At Ruwenzori, you can really experience the seasons.
Summers are hot and fairly dry (Max average 30°C; Min average 18°C) - but we do get spectacular summer thunderstorms. Great for daytime siestas and dining under the stars. The carriages are really well ventilated and we usually get a lovely afternoon breeze which cools things down. Summer sunsets are spectacular!
Winters are cold (Max average 14°C; Min average 1°C), but it never snows and being on the top of a mountain we rarely get frosts. A great time for bushwalking, roasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire, cooking large roasts on the Early Kooka and tasting the local reds.
Spring and Autumn are traditionally the "high" seasons for visitors to Mudgee, with sunny warm days and cooler nights, with an average maximum daily temp of around 23°C.
